لجنة آلية تنفيذ وقف الأعمال العدائية تعاين عمليات اللواء الخامس في الجيش اللبناني
العرب نيوز ( بيروت – لبنان ) هذا الصباح، إنضم الى رئيس لجنة آلية تنفيذ وقف الأعمال العدائية الجنرال الأميركي جاسبر جيفرز الجنرال الفرنسي غيوم بونشان في زيارة إلى مقر اللواء الخامس للجيش اللبناني في القطاع الغربي لجنوب لبنان. يقع المقر على بعد خمسة كيلومترات شمال شرق بلدة الناقورة، التي هي الآن تحت سيطرة الجيش اللبناني بعد تنفيذ المرحلة الأولى من انسحاب القوات الإسرائيلية في 6 كانون الثاني. وكجزء من عملية الانتقال التي أتاحت تنفيذها اللجنة، قام الجيش اللبناني بنشر قواته في المنطقة على الفور من أجل تطهير الطرق وإزالة الذخائر غير المصرح بها وتوفير الأمن للشعب اللبناني. هذا، وقد اطلع الجنرالان جيفرز وبونشان على مخزونات الأسلحة التي سوف يتم تدميرها في الأيام المقبلة، والتي استولى عليها الجيش اللبناني من الجماعات المسلحة غير المصرح لها. أشاد الجنرال جيفرز بعمل الجيش اللبناني، قائلاً: “إن الجيش اللبناني هو المؤسسة الشرعية التي توفر الامن للبنان وهو يستمر في الاثبات لي ولبقية أعضاء اللجنة أن لديه القدرة والنية والقيادة لتأمين لبنان والدفاع عنه. فهو تصرف بحزم وسرعة وبخبرة واضحة. واليوم رأينا مثالاً على ذلك مع جنود اللواء الخامس. إن فوج الهندسة على وجه الخصوص مليء بالمحترفين الحقيقيين الذين يزيلون أسبوعيا مئات القطع من الذخائر غير المنفجرة ويجعلونها آمنة.”
Mechanism Observes LAF 5th Brigade Operations
ARAB -NEWS (BEIRUT LEBANON) U.S. Major General Jasper Jeffers, the Chairman of the Cessation of Hostilities Implementation Mechanism, was joined by French Brigadier General Guillaume Ponchin on a visit to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) 5th Brigade headquarters in southwest Lebanon this morning. The headquarters is five kilometers northeast of Naqoura, a town under the control of the Lebanese Armed Forces after the first phase of withdrawal by Israeli forces on January 6th. As part of the Mechanism-enabled transition, the LAF immediately deployed forces to the area to clear roads, remove unauthorized munitions, and provide security for the people of Lebanon. Generals Jeffers and Ponchin viewed stockpiles of weapons to be destroyed in the coming days, which the LAF seized from unauthorized armed groups. Commending the LAF’s work, MG Jeffers said, “The LAF is the legitimate security provider for Lebanon and continues to demonstrate to me and the rest of the Mechanism it has the capability, intent, and leadership to secure and defend Lebanon. They have acted decisively, rapidly, and with clear expertise. Today, we saw an example of this with the soldiers of the 5th Brigade. The engineer corps in particular is full of true professionals, removing and rendering safe hundreds of pieces of unexploded ordnance every week.”
